First songs

As a complete greenhorn, I naturally started off by practicing some of my favorite songs by such great artists as U2, Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Sheryl Crow, Metallica, Radiohead, Jason Isbell (and if you think this is quite a jumbled hotchpotch, you haven’t even seen half the list…).

But of course my guitarist (yeah, need one – who of you really believed that I’d actually learn to play well enough within a couple of months?) isn’t too happy with covering other people’s songs (no matter how great they are) and suggested writing our own stuff. I said “Nah… — If — at — all — I can only write when I’m on the train”. So he put me on the train, down south, and for half a day I could (drink coffee, listen to music, doze… and) write. When I came home I had written the lyrics for four songs.

Now what you should know about the guitarist: his native tongue is music. It took him four days thinking over some chords and riffs during his (non-guitarist) day job, and every day he came home with a concept for one of the songs. We finished them within a week 🙂 And believe me, nobody is more blown by the thought that within a week one can go from “I can’t write music” to “Yay, our first own songs!”, than I am! And it’s really an amazing feeling to put your pains, frustrations and emotions into words and underline them with the drive of music.

Well, so let me get back to practicing. And come to see us some time! I’ll keep you updated 🙂
